Our
Journey......meet the Willis' s
We are a
homeschool family of five, that operate a small farm, located on the
east coast of North Carolina. Our
dream began in early 2005 when
we made the decision to move back
home to the farm where Phillip
grew up. We wanted a more simplistic alternative lifestyle for our family.
It was important to Phillip and I, that our boys
experience “nature” the way he did
as a boy and also experience the benefits of raising livestock. Being a
former teacher, I immediately went researching for the
"perfect livestock" that the boys and I could handle while
Phillip was busy running his own land clearing business.
Yes, I saw the "I Love Alpacas" advertisement and was
immediately hooked. Other than being absolutely
adorable looking, they presented wonderful tax benefits, an
end product (Fleece) that is renewable, and my boys and I
could physically handle the care of the animals
ourselves. Our perfect livestock, two bred girls and a
pet male, arrived on our farm on Mother's Day 2006.
Today, our farm has grown to 19 huacaya alpacas and a
Llama.....and still growing.
Alpacas are the perfect livestock in our opinion. Not
only do we enjoy the business benefits of owning and
breeding our alpacas, just having them in our lives
have taught us to appreciate the calmness, compassion and
contentment out of life.
